Ross Wynne has brought the gold medal for aircraft maintenance home to Ireland from the 2015 World Skills competition in Brazil. The competition is the largest of its kind, including 1,200 competitors from 70 different countries across the globe, of which Ireland ranked 11th overall. This is the fourth consecutive Irish apprentice to claim gold in this category.
“Apprenticeships are an ideal way for somebody to transition from school to the world of work,’ says Pat O’Toole, Solas chief executive. Apprenticeships allow hands on experience which enforces the theory of the trade previously learned in class.
Wynne’s goal is to become a licensed engineer. “I always enjoyed working with my hands. While looking for a challenging, active job, I stumbled upon aircraft maintenance and have never looked back since,” said Wynne.
Irish aviation training is viewed globally as one of the best in the world. His gold medal is a testament to his skills and dedication, and to the training and experiences he has received at Atlantic Aviation Group.
